Orange Habanero Pepper (Capsicum chinense)
Disclaimer: The use of plastic gloves is recommended when handling any part of this plant.
The Habanero Pepper is one of the hottest and most famous chilis in the world. This extremely hot pepper is popular in Mexico, South America and the Caribbean. It’s 40 times hotter than a Jalapeno! At one point, the habanero pepper held the crown as the world’s hottest chili pepper. Not only is this a very hot pepper, between 150,000 and 300,000 Scoville Heat Units, it is a great tasting pepper sauce and salsa ingredient. Unlike many of the hotter chilies, there’s quite a bit of flavor to go along with the extra-hot kick. it has a unique, citrus-like taste with a subtle hint of smoke that makes it very popular in hot sauces, powders, and rubs. If you can handle the heat, this is a fun culinary chili to play with in the kitchen.
